5G Technology Breakthrough
The next-generation of telecom networks (fifth generation or 5G) has started shaking the market since the end of 2018 and will continue to expand worldwide.
Past speed improvement, the technology is expected to reveal a massive 5G IoT (Internet of Things) ecosystem where networks can serve communication needs for billions of connected devices, with the right trade-offs between speed, latency, and cost. This article give details about what you need to know about 5G Technology.
5G technology is driven by 8 specification requirements on diagram below
How 5G work
Most operators will initially integrate 5G networks with existing 4G networks to provide an uninterrupted connection. 5G network illustrating 5G and 4G working together, with central and local servers providing faster content to users.
A mobile network has two main components, the Radio Access Network and the Core Network.
The Radio Access Network – Consists of various types of facilities including small cells, towers, masts and dedicated in-building home systems that connect mobile users and wireless devices to the main core network.
The Core Network – Is the mobile exchange and data network that manages all of the mobile voice, data and internet connections. For 5G, the core network is being redesigned to better integrate with the internet and cloud based services and also includes distributed servers across the network improving response times (reducing latency).

When did 5G launch?
Initial 5G services commenced in many countries in 2019 and widespread availability of 5G is expected by 2025.
The 5G use cases
New generation wireless network came with new packages.
The new generation 5G will make no exception and will concentrate on IoT.
In terms of the schedule, we can mention the use cases:
- Enhanced mobile broadband with 4G fallback (from 2019-2020-2021)
- Ultra-low-latency IoT critical communications (from 2024-2025)
- Massive M2M / IoT (from 2021-2022)
- Fixed wireless access (from 2018-2019 onwards)
In short, 2019 is when 5G lifted off, and 2020 and 2021 are when 5G networks and 5G phones became available for the users.
The relationship between 5G and satellites
- 5G satellite communication is absolutely from the sky to the device- will soon become a reality.
- Indeed, a new generation of satellites will bring unveil 5G capabilities to ensure full 5G coverage of the globe at large.
- 5G will offer best accessibility, reliability, and resilience, with broadcasting and multi-broadcasting capabilities.
- 5G support a wide variety of applications (e.g., logistics, agriculture, public safety) so that everybody in the globe can be connected.
In addition to delivering faster connections and greater capacity, an essential benefit of 5G is the swift response time referred to as latency.
Latency is the duration taken for devices to respond to each other over the wireless network. The response time of 3G networks is 100 milliseconds, 4G is around 30 milliseconds and 5G will be as low as 1 millisecond. This is undoubtedly instantaneous opening up a new world of connected applications.
By 2035, 5G would enable over $12.3 trillion of global economic output and support 22 million jobs worldwide, which will come from the digitization of transportation, agriculture, manufacturing and other physical industries.
